About the project

The Club of League Goalscorers (KLK) brings together players who have scored 100 or more goals in a top-flight league, whether at home or abroad. Only goals scored in the highest division of a given country count. Just 37 players in history, from the First World War to the present day, have reached this milestone. That is what makes the club so valuable: only a very small number of elite goalscorers have ever managed it.

The oft-quoted line from the German writer Thomas Mann – that those who do not know the past cannot understand the future – applies fully to Slovak football too. If we want our young talents to grow into well-rounded personalities, both on the pitch and in their private lives, we must offer them genuine role models; following them is the surest way of taking hold of one’s destiny. The members of the Club of League Goalscorers are rightly role models and deservedly idols for the generations that follow.

Our aim has been to give people who deserve undying respect, universal esteem and the recognition of generations the pantheon they have earned. Part of that effort was the idea of compiling a book about Slovak goalscorers – exceptional figures not only for their footballing artistry but also for their human qualities. Every member of this elite club is, at the same time, a role model for those who follow in their footsteps and for thousands of fans.
